The dynamically unstable STO is one love/hate relationship!
Let’s start with the super hard Bridgestone “race” tires, the STO team had some strong marketing for these bad boys lol. The tires come from Italy, they sent us 1 year old tires. Even if they were newer, they are NOT great track tires. I even had some brake lock up a few times!
I didn’t even know the car had mag ride but I thought about it as I entered the Esses after a few laps and felt how soft the car was. Something changed…this is a common phenomenon with mag ride. Once the shock gets hot, it goes into a default setting. Your handling slowly disappears lap after lap!
The rear steer is the worst part about the car, talk about a lack of trust. It’s a gimmick and makes the car dynamically unstable, zero driver confidence. Part of the problem is the Trofeo mode, the rear steer calms down in street mode and felt much better. My good buddy and car owner decided we should crank the wing angle, which did calm down the rear some. It’s a T30, 2 bolts and they have to come out…
The speedo is 10mph off at 155mph, saying you’re going 165mph! I see this a lot though, still annoying and the car actually wasn’t that “fast”.
Clearly I’m not that impressed and was just disappointed in every direction possible. So hears the deal, we are going to figure out a rear steer delete kit, change the stock sway bar end links, swap over some coilovers and put a real tire on the car. Then it will be a serious weapon on track! It is gorgeous and draws a lot of attention! The STO is a skunkworks type of Lambo, it really has a ton of unique parts but is better off at Cars & Coffee or doing canyon runs 😊
As far as the Performante vrs STO goes, I’m a huge Perf guy! Not many are, I can defy physics in that car but it requires a very high level driving style. I did 168mph GPS speed at COTA in one and yes I made the corner lol. Speedo of course said 178mph!
Also, this STO is equipped with Akraprovic Ti exhaust, alignment, SRF, Bridgestone Race tires, medio wing setting.
