I made the trip up to Queensland Raceway for Jap Nats 2022 this past weekend. It was my first time at QR in any capacity so I was excited to learn and race at a new circuit.
The morning sessions were run on the clubman layout. I basically just spent the first session learning the track and figuring out brake points and gearing etc. I played around with different things to figure out what worked best. Surprisingly I still laid down a 60.6 lap in my first 5 laps of QR, this showed me that the car was going to be quick!
Session 2 I just continued on where I left off and was trying to go faster everywhere. On my 8th lap of QR I did the lap seen in the video. It's not very good but this would ultimately be my best lap on this layout as session 3 saw some grouping issues and I didn't get one clean lap in then session 4 it started to rain just as we lined up at pit exit.
Despite the rain and semi damp track, this session was probably my best on the layout and my best lap was only 0.2 of the lap on the video. I got some pointers from friends and took so better lines through a couple corners and It was paying off but unfortunately the overall grip just wasn't there.
And that was the clubman morning sessions done. The 60.30 was still good enough to put me 1st in my class but I was disappointed as the car easily has a 59.x in it. Oh well, until next time!
