Dominion Raceway is a motorsports complex located a 45-minute drive north of Richmond in Thornburg, Virginia. The complex includes an oval NASCAR-type racetrack, a drag strip, and the 2-miler road course. The average lap time on the 2-mile raceway is 1:36.7, with an average speed of 74 mph. Drivers should prepare for driving on wet asphalt any time of the year: Thornburg experiences rainfall 110 days a year on average and some light form of precipitation almost daily. The temperature is cool and pleasant, and the high trees surrounding the track let the drivers get in touch with nature.
Visiting Dominion Raceway is always an exciting American motorsports experience, and amateur drivers receive lots of opportunities of driving the 2-mile road course on street drive events. There are 12 turns in the main road course, with 70 feet of elevation change. The long 2700 feet straightaway gives plenty of room for accelerating, and the track also includes several banked sweepers to keep the momentum going. The northernmost stretch of the raceway is highly technical, with three hairpin turns back to back, requiring drivers to slow down and concentrate on staying on track.
