The Circuit of Megara, also known as the Athens Circuit, is a 1.31-mile (2.1-km) motorsports facility located in Megara, 45 minutes west of Athens, in Attica, Greece, the cradle of western civilization. The circuit sits on flat agricultural land beside the Megara General Aviation Airport, at a stone throw from the Mediterranean Sea. The road course layout resembles a triangle with a vertex snaking into the center. There are ten corners in the Circuit of Megara, six to the right and four to the left, and it's back straight is considerably longer than the front straight. The Mediterranean climate of Greece is excellent for outdoor activities like racing year-round.
The Circuit of Megara goes clockwise, starting near its geographic center in a short front straightaway. Turn one is a tight left-hander followed by the sweeping corners two and three. Corner number four has the sharpest angle in the circuit, together with corner nine, both being right-hand bends requiring drivers to focus on control. The 90-degree turn five is the entry for the heavy acceleration sector at the back straightaway, which ends abruptly on the 45-degree corner number six. The top velocity in the back straight is up to 150 km/h (93 mph). The exit of turn six is another heavy acceleration spot, which ends on the tight corner nine. Races tend to finish at a top speed, with competitors overtaking each other in the front straight.
