The Brands Hatch Circuit is an FIA Grade 2 road course and former Formula 1 venue located an hour away from London in West Kingsdown, Kent, in the United Kingdom. The circuit allows racing in two configurations: the Full Course with a 2.43 miles (3.91 km) trajectory and the Indy Circuit with a 1.2 mile (1.93 km) trajectory. Brands Hatch, without a doubt, is one of England's most beloved circuits by racing fans, which gather around its relatively simple layout for racing series such as the European DTM, the British GT, or the European NASCAR, to name a few. The track surface tends to be wet, with the pleasant climate and cloudy skies characteristic of southern England.
The Full Course at Brands Hatch Circuit has nine corners, running clockwise with six right-hand turns and three left-hand turns. High-performance vehicles get an extraordinary average speed of 99 mph (159 km/h), traveling through the ups and downs of the track. The average velocity on the Indy circuit is remarkably lower because of its shorter straightaways, with 79 mph (127 km/h). The most exciting features of Brands Hatch are its strategically-placed elevation changes which combine with the trees around the track to restrict visibility on the curves, elevating the technical difficulty on several orders of magnitude.
The Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch starts at the Branham Straight, the segment with the highest speed on the track. The dive at Paddock Hill Bend is next, followed by the semi-straight stretch called Hailwoods Hill. Racers find Druids, the tightest turn at Brands Hatch, and elevate their speed on Cooper Straight. Four sweeping corners complete a lap around this layout, Surtees, Mc Laren, Clearways, and Clark Curve, on an exhilarating road course made for high-speed racing.
